Vision Statement
The Williamsport Guardian is being incorporated as a progressive, non-profit organization with an all-volunteer staff and board of directors. The Guardian will publish a quality monthly newspaper in tabloid format, sixteen pages or more, beginning in April 2005. The online edition will carry additional articles, longer versions of articles and links for more information on the issues. We will publish a wide variety of political viewpoints, especially those under-represented in existing media outlets in north-central Pennsylvania. News analysis will usually include the local or regional implications of events and trends in the world at large. We aim to help readers connect the dots between the national and the local, between government action and individuals and families in local communities. Our coverage of cultural events will emphasize smaller venues, independent films, and local or not-so-famous artists. Each issue will include a well-designed, highly readable calendar of cultural, educational, and political events in the region, as broadly defined.
The Williamsport Guardian will be available for free in restaurants, stores, theaters and other venues throughout north-central Pennsylvania, including Lycoming, Clinton, Tioga, Bradford, Sullivan, Union, Northumberland, Columbia, Montour and Snyder Counties. Copies will be mailed to individual subscribers, who can pay a basic subscription fee or donate at a higher level. Printing and other costs will be paid by subscriptions, advertising, and donations. After we obtain non-profit standing, we will seek funding from grants.
