I ran across the print version of The Guardian at the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg and was pleasantly surprised to see a publication with a fresh, grass roots approach to journalism. That print version prompted me to visit you online and after a few days of checking out your eclectic content, the variety of opinions offered and the focus on issues of real importance to readers, I'm impressed. You can count me as a regular reader of your publication. Hopefully you will also start distributing it in the Nittany Valley also, we are in desperate need of some good grass roots journalism here.

We need to act now in order to stop this madness about the health insurance costs. I'm a harder worker that pay my individual insurance policy for over 2 decades, but I'm getting very close to give it up since the premiums are way higher than a normal person can afford. My individual insurance premium will be $ 720.00 in January and now this premium will be only for one year. All of this not covering half of what they used to cover. No insurance should be over 1/2 of the minimum age... those insurance companies are just sucking people blood and forcing many even to think about suicide if they need assistance. We need action NOW.

Kevin, I'm not affiliated in any way with this paper - in fact, I don't live in the Williamsport area, but discovered this paper on a visit there last spring.

A couple of observations, if I may.

In my experience, communities within a larger community often arise and coalesce around identification of shared concerns, i.e., criticisms of current events.

Sometimes criticisms are no more than that and they can easily become tiresome; but sometimes inherent in a criticism is a promotion of the "opposing" values being shortchanged by the activity being criticized.*

But your point is a good one - there is also a need for positive values and suggestions.

I'm betting the paper and the Williamsport community it speaks for would very much appreciate your own contributions as to how to make Williamsport a better community.

Regards

RJW

* For example - let's say I am criticizing the degree to which corporate and commercial values have come to dominate our national political discussions.

I might point out that the singular corporate value is to maximize profits for investors. (Indeed, this value, this focus, is required by law.)

Implicit in that criticism is, I belief, promotion of other values, civic and community values, in crafting the shape of our self-governance.

It helps, but is not essential, I believe, to mention our Founders set forth several broad missions for our government:

To
* form a more perfect Union,
* establish Justice,
* insure domestic Tranquility,
* provide for the common defence,
* promote the general Welfare, and
* secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity....

I am looking for a good and reasonably priced health insurance provider for my 9 year old son. Insurance through my work is outrageous so I'm looking for an outside provider. His mother is suppose to have already put him on CHIP with the state of TX (by court order) but she refuses to do so for some reason. I hate the idea of him being without health insurance. Anyone had any good experiences with certain companies? Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Sullivan County has been our family's favorite getaway spot for fifty years. Up until now, it has been a peaceful and untouched place to be, indeed, my favorite place—so nice to have one place in the world that has remained constantly the same. Much to our dismay, this past summer we found heavy, loud truck traffic, and those horrible pink ribbons everywhere, indicating drill/testing spots. Frankly, aside from the loss of peace and quiet, my main concern is that the Loyalsock be protected. Please don't add to the disaster that is happening to this beautiful area by destroying and defiling the Loyalsock.
