A couple of observations, if I may.

In my experience, communities within a larger community often arise and coalesce around identification of shared concerns, i.e., criticisms of current events.

Sometimes criticisms are no more than that and they can easily become tiresome; but sometimes inherent in a criticism is a promotion of the “opposing” values being shortchanged by the activity being criticized.*

But your point is a good one – there is also a need for positive values and suggestions.

I’m betting the paper and the Williamsport community it speaks for would very much appreciate your own contributions as to how to make Williamsport a better community.

I might point out that the singular corporate value is to maximize profits for investors. (Indeed, this value, this focus, is required by law.)

Implicit in that criticism is, I belief, promotion of other values, civic and community values, in crafting the shape of our self-governance.

It helps, but is not essential, I believe, to mention our Founders set forth several broad missions for our government:

To
* form a more perfect Union,
* establish Justice,
* insure domestic Tranquility,
* provide for the common defence,
* promote the general Welfare, and
* secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity….
