Williamsport Community Radio

On June 6, 2008, the FCC granted The Williamsport Guardian, Inc., a construction permit for a full-power FM radio station, with a transmitter in Jersey Shore (near Linden and 220), at 88.5 on the dial. Now we have to build the actual station. We have until June 6, 2011, to get the station up and running.

We need committees/working groups to work on the following:

Fundraising and P.R.: Get the word out and raise lots of money, through fundraising events, grants and soliciting individual donations of money and equipment

Engineering/Technical (calling all geeks!): Work with a radio engineer to determine where

our station can be located, then put together the equipment we need

Facilities: Find a site for the station and then work with the Construction Committee

Volunteer coordination/communication:

Recruit the people and let them know what needs to be done

Construction: Carpentry, electrical work (The building trade unions have offered to help us out here!)

Programming: The most fun – but we need all the other stuff first before anything goes on air! The general plan is to air music and news that isn’t heard elsewhere on the local radio dial, local stuff as well as national news and talk shows that we can pull from other community stations nationwide.

Come to one of our regular meetings on Thursday evenings. Locations vary. Join our Facebook group, Williamsport Community Radio, to get all the latest news about our meetings. Make a list of friends and organizations you’d like to see get involved and start calling them to come to the next meeting.
